COMPANY PROFIL
	Gewerkstatt - a private non-profit-making company was founded in 1985 in Bochum to set up and carry out projects aimed at combatting unemployment in our region. The Ruhrarea ,Germany`s former heart of the industrial production, has had to deal with structural economic changes in the last 20 years. At the beginning vocational training and education courses for young unemployed persons in various professions were offered. In order to give these young people also an opportunity to enter the job market after the training courses various small business were started up: e.g. Chrysler dealer in Bochum, neon-glass-blow company in Essen, electric installation enterprise. A main topic of vocational training and education is in the area of the service sector. Therefore a Conference Centre (BOGATA) and a guest house (58 beds) was opened which offers practical training facilities. Since 1985 over 2000 participants have been trained in courses and vocational training or projects. In the last years training and education for other specific target groups such as women returning to work, unskilled and semi-skilled workers, long-term unempoyed persons and foreign nationals have been held. To combat unemployment more different strategies are required. In addition to the target-group related policy Gewerkstatt also aims at a prevenative corporate labour market policy which focuses on training for workers in SMEīs and creates new areas of employment. In 1996 Gewerkstatt founded the service agency agil as an enterprise for private house service (e.g. cleaning, shopping). In 2000 another agency called "prompt" was added. All employees were trained to the demands of the work. Today there have been 200 new jobs created and the agency will extend to other cities. With an project founded by the EU initiative "ADAPT" training-courses have been developed for employees of small and medium sized enterprises in tourism in Ruhrarea region. The project Wellness and quality in tourism has created the TOURINFO database. This is the first database for Enterprises seeking for qualification measures. Tourism is the most rapidly growing business in the world and will create new jobs in our region. There are currently 150 participants in the various projects run by Gewerkstatt and about 30 trainers and paedagogical staff. Financial support for these projects has been provided by the Government, the county, employment agencies and the different programmes of the European Union. Within the programm LEONARDO DA VINCI we had a placement project in our hotel BOGATA in Bochum for students from the hotel academy "O.Bruckner" in Kezmarok/Slovakia. Further placement projects have been taken place from partners from Lithuania, Latvia , Poland and Italy. We can offer placement with practical trainings in all professions. The students live in our own hotel called BOGATA which is run by participants of our training courses. Bochum is a very attractive city in the heart of germanīs most interesting Ruhrgebiet area.
